    The Latin text here translated is a typescript of the first edition ofHyperaspistes 2(Basel: Froben 1527)¹ generously provided by Cornelis Augustijn, who prepared it for the AmsterdamOpera omnia. The text has been compared with that of the 1703 Leiden edition (LB X), and, in difficult places, with copies of the first edition and the second, unauthorized edition ([Nürnberg] 1527)² in the British Library; the readings of these editions are occasionally discussed in the commentary.
