    It takes very little to start a little magazine. As a minimum a secondhand typewriter, some paper, and access to a mimeograph machine will do. The new editor can write the thing himself and send it out to his friends.

    But one can spend money at it. In the history of little magazines there have been a number of lavish ventures done up in nineteen colors by foundations and rich widows. Littleness is not determined by the money expended, though money inevitably has had some bearing on it, particularly in the last decade.
