    The Discourse on Blessed Babylas and against the Greeks was probably written between 363 and 379–80. The date of composition must be after 363 because the peace treaty made with Persia upon the death of emperor Julian is mentioned (Bab. 123). In all likelihood the discourse was composed before 379–80 because it contains no reference to the martyr’s shrine (martyrium) built for Babylas across the Orontes river near Antioch. This shrine, constructed under the supervision of Meletius, bishop of Antioch, was completed in 379–80.¹ Chrysostom does not mention the new martyrium or Meletius’s intention to build it...

    The first portion of this volume deals with an apologetic treatise of St. John Chrysostom, De s. Babyla contra Julianum et gentiles, which presents an encomium on the triumph of Christianity and the downfall of paganism. In this second part we offer a second apologetic treatise of Chrysostom on the divinity of Christ, and again the principal targets are the pagans.
